Jhatpat Aloo Paratha

Ever tried making aloo paratha this way??? It’s fast and simple, especially for someone like me who hates rolling parathas and chapatis, let alone stuffing it with something. :)

For the jhatpat aloo paratha, you will need:

  • 1 cup wheat flour
  • 2 potatoes boiled and mashed
  • 1 tsp ginger chili paste
  • 1 tsp garlic paste
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • chopped coriander
  • juice of 1/2 lemon
  • salt to taste

Mash the potatoes and add all the ingredients except the flour.

Now add as much flour as needed to make a soft dough like chapati. (Do not add water) Add 1/2 tsp oil and knead the dough.

Roll them into thick parathas and cook on a pan with ghee/oil on both the sides till golden brown specs are seen.

Serve with pickle, raita or yogurt. :)

    Hey Coffee…

Nice paranthas…anything made from aaloo is heaven and if they are paranthas then nothing like it. I liked your recipe a lot. I make it with left over dals…make dough using dal instead of water.

    Thanks..

    Nidhi.

My mom used to make it this way for my lunch box when I was young. It comes out real soft & fluffy, doesn’t it? Perfect for packed lunch.

Hi Coffee, Your aloo parantha recipe is awesome. It’s a good idea to knead everything with flour.

Aha, so there are others who take this classic shortcut as well

One variation I tried was the same with Maida - I kept the dough aside for a few hours and almost magically, the parathas turn out as though one has stuffed aloo inside them!!

Got something to say?
