Precious!
Precious - treating something with too much reverence
Precious - of high value or worth
Precious - regarded with love and tenderness
We all treat the fruits and veggies as precious, especially when they are in season and worth treating with reverence, since they are of such high value especially when they are in season that we want to savour them for the rest of the year. For someone like me, staying in Singapore, I am lucky enough to get the produce all through the year, (Singapore is so small that there is no place to grow anything, but most of the fruits and veggies come from other countries and hence available almost all round the year) but for those staying elsewhere, I am sure you would notice the seasons changing with the produce coming in and out of the market.
And while they are so precious….. they are indeed worth preserving.
I had never really ventured into this aspect of cooking and choosing this theme was especially for this reason.
When I thought about this theme, I had all the intentions of raiding Viji’s blog! I can officially crown her the Jam Queen for the wonderful flavors that she comes up with. Strawberry jam was one such that I tried out and I vouch for it completely and recommend to whoever wants to venture into this form of cooking. Just the simple blending of Strawberry, Orange juice and Brown sugar gives you this thick, creamy, deep red spread.
My husbands first reaction after having this was: Since when did strawberry jams start tasting like pure home-made jams?
My answer to it: Since the time they are made at home. ![]()
The only difference was that I cooked on stove top rather than Microwave.

Though Singapore mostly gets all varieties of fruits and veggies from all over the world, I have never really seen fresh cranberries over here!
Our consumption of cranberries - in breakfast cereals mostly- is always in the form of the dried variety. I love the strong tangy and slightly sweet taste of it. When I saw this Cranberry Orange Jam , I just had to try it out. This jam is inspired from B’s and Indira’s version.

Another jam from Viji is the Apple Ginger Jam. Absolutely awesome!!! Wonderful flavor of Granny Smith Apples with just a hint of Ginger in it - just marvelous! ![]()
What? Why are you looking like that? Oh yeah, the pic. It turned out to be corrupted, and by the time I uploaded the pic, the jam was all over! But it looks exactly like what Viji has. ![]()

With the whole blogsphere indulging in Manisha’s Lemon Pickles, I was wooed by it and just had to try them. Now I am not very comfortable with pickles especially here in Singapore where the weather is full of moisture! The white fluffy stuff grows on almost everything here and hence I have a bigger refrigerator than cabinets in my kitchen (Some people keep two refrigerators in their house here!
) YEAH! Even the pickles are in the refrigerator! And because of that I am not really for it. But the simplicity of the whole recipe made me try it and I am happy I did!
Manisha recommends slow cooking under the sun, but the sun is hard to find here since it rains anytime! And if I have to leave it in the balcony being overly optimistic for the sun to really shower all its love on my pickle, I would be seeing the white stuff on them instantly. But I still managed somehow with the oven light on and keeping it under the sun over the weekends when I am at home, and after 5 weeks it is just awesome!
I am an absolute khichdi lover and plain khichdi with this pickle is heaven on earth for me!

I indulge in tomatoes in all its form. And Indira’s version of Tomato pickle was just the right one! Very simple to make and rich in its flavors. A great accompaniment to any of your comfort foods.
I have to keep it in the refrigerator, but it still tastes awesome! Very tasty to even lick it just like that. ![]()
